Our Mission

Clear Hearts Quaker Circle formed out of a need for a Quaker community in Portland that has its foundations in radical inclusion and anti-racism work. We believe our spiritual gifts are best nurtured and expressed within a framework of deep belonging, reconciliation, justice, and hospitality.

When you visit a new faith community, it can be uncomfortable.  This is especially true for people who do not fit the white, heterosexual, cisgender, two-parent family societal norm.  Will you be accepted?  Can you be your full, authentic self in the company of others in this community?  Can you mention all members of your family and celebrate the important occasions in your family’s life?  Can you use your name and pronouns and expect others to do the same?  Will your voice be honored and uplifted and will your family connections and traditions be respected and celebrated? Will the ongoing impacts of systemic racism be acknowledged and will anti-racism be intentionally used as a lens to inform the decisions of the community? Will your unique experience of God or Spirit or the Light or Holy Darkness, or simply the wonders of the universe, be heard with open hearts and minds?

At Clear Hearts Quaker Circle: we believe the answer to all of the above questions should be a resounding YES.

No one individual or organization is perfect.  But we begin from a place of intentional openness and clear hearts: we want to be the community you haven’t found elsewhere.  We will take the risk of imperfection as we strive to be better.  And we know that everyone needs a sense of deep belonging and community grounding to be their best selves in every day life.

Welcome.
